ABA families

ABA therapy is a family affair

Autism affects family relationships. Family dynamics are affected by so many factors: work schedules, single parenting, siblings, blended families, economics, health and the list goes on. When autism comes into your life these dynamics are all affected. The effects can have positive influences making the family stronger, closer, smarter and a greater appreciation for life’s joys. Autism can also add challenges such as creating safe environments, entrusting others for care and advice, greater demands on your time, managing severe behaviors, medical needs and many more tests of your fortitude.

An ABA therapist works with a child. If your family is seeking ABA in Colorado Springs, we can help.

Expectations

Engaging in ABA therapy is crucial for families of children with autism, as it provides structured support to develop communication, social, and daily living skills tailored to each child’s unique needs. By participating in ABA, families not only help their children make meaningful progress but also learn strategies to reinforce positive behaviors in everyday situations. This collaborative approach empowers families to play an active role in their child's growth, leading to a more inclusive and supportive environment both at home and in the community.

Training

Keystone Achievements will provide ongoing ABA training created for parents. We do not view training as optional or we would be saying it is optional for your child to receive the best care or marginal care. When we all apply the techniques throughout your child’s daily life they will conquer their challenges, they will grow more confident, they will become more independent, they will continuously learn, and the entire family will benefit.

Goals

Our goal is to improve the life of your child by giving them skills to have fewer moments of frustration, the means to communicate their needs, understanding why other people act the way they do, the appropriate response when encountering various situations, learning respect, and being proud of their unique qualities. Our goal is not achievable without the parents or caregivers committing to learning and utilizing the techniques for your child to receive constant and consistent positive reinforcement to use the skills they are being taught. You have to be committed to expanding your toolbox of skills to overcome the challenges of autism.

Having ABA therapy for my son at Keystone has been incredibly helpful for both him and me. It has allowed us to understand certain behaviors and provided strategies to correct or work through them for better outcomes. Now in 3rd grade, he is doing amazing. I never thought he would be able to attend school, but thanks to Keystone, he is now well-prepared for school. The program has been instrumental in teaching him what to do and what is expected of him in the school environment.

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is an evidence-based treatment commonly used to support individuals with autism. ABA therapy focuses on improving communication, social skills, daily living skills, and behavior regulation through positive reinforcement. It is designed to help individuals learn meaningful skills that increase independence and improve quality of life in everyday settings.

  • ABA therapy is highly individualized. Treatment plans are developed after comprehensive assessments that consider strengths, challenges, interests, and family priorities. Goals are specific, measurable, and adjusted over time based on progress and data. This personalized approach ensures therapy supports the individual—not a preset program.

  • ABA therapy can benefit children, adolescents, and adults on the autism spectrum. It is commonly recommended for individuals who need support with communication, social interaction, behavior management, or daily living skills. While early intervention is often encouraged, ABA therapy can be effective at many stages of life depending on individual goals.

  • During the first few weeks of ABA therapy, families can expect assessments, observation, and relationship building. Therapists focus on understanding routines, preferences, and needs while collecting data to refine goals. Progress may feel gradual at first as trust and consistency are established, creating a strong foundation for long-term success.

  • When choosing an ABA therapy provider, families should consider clinician credentials, individualized treatment planning, communication style, and family involvement. Providers should clearly explain goals, progress tracking, and how therapy adapts over time. Feeling heard, informed, and supported is just as important as clinical expertise.
